Every photograph on Ridge Rundown is a freely licensed picture from Wikimedia Commons. Most are released into the public domain; the rest carry a Creative Commons licence that allows reuse as long as the photographer is credited.

We choose photographs by subject rather than by brand: a boot on a bench, a tent in bad weather, a rain shell beading water. We crop and re-encode each file as JPEG for the web and do not otherwise alter it. Where a licence asks for attribution, the list below is that attribution. If you took one of these photographs and would like the credit worded differently, or would like it removed, write to contact@ridgerundown.com and we will act on it.

A banner of four photographs: two walkers with poles and an umbrella on a mountain trail below a snow-covered peak, tents pitched on a mountainside at dusk, a camping stove burning beside a metal pot, and a magnetic compass on a wooden table

A montage built from photographs already published on this site. Each panel is credited under its own entry in this list.

What the licences mean

CC0 and the public domain marks mean the photographer has given up their rights and no attribution is legally required. We credit the photographer anyway, because the person who took the picture should be named.

CC BY and CC BY-SA allow reuse, including commercially, provided the photographer and the licence are credited. We do not modify these photographs beyond cropping, resizing and format conversion, so each file stays under the licence named beside it.
